Red Bay gets area wins at Winston County

Braden Ray scored 15 points to help lead the second-ranked Red Bay Tigers to an area win over the Winston County Yellow Jackets, 53-36.

Red Bay took a 14-8 first quarter lead and extended that lead to 33-18 at halftime. The Tigers pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring the Yellow Jackets 14-7 to take a 47-25 lead into the final quarter.

Nine players got in the scoring column for Red Bay. Following Ray were Colton Corum with nine points, Gath Weatherford with seven points, Lane Shewbart with seven points, Tanner Hamilton with five points and Clay Allison with four points. Jalen Vinson, Noah Brewer, and Alex Kennedy added two points each.

In the varsity girls game, Reagan Kuykendall scored 18 points to lead Red Bay past Winston County 52-44. Red Bay held a slim 8-6 lead at the end of the first quarter and clung to a 21-19 lead at halftime. The Tigers started to pull away in the third quarter, outscoring the Yellow Jackets 17-13 to take a 38-32 lead into the final quarter of play.

Following Kuykendall was Mallori Miller with 11 points. Lila Blackburn and Macy Faulkner scored eight points each. Destiny McCollister had seven points, and Kaylee Markham and Cassidy Kuykendall contributed two points each.
