Bulldogs, Bobcats battle to wire for second time
When the Belgreen Bulldogs and Phil Campbell Bobcats faced off at Belgreen, the Bobcats took the Bulldogs to overtime. Belgreen came away with the win. The two rivals met again Jan. 8 at Phil Campbell. Again, the two teams went down to the wire – and, again, Belgreen closed out the game with a win, 52-46.
Belgreen led Phil Campbell 14-12 at the end of the first quarter and by three at halftime, 28-25. Phil Campbell came back in third quarter to tie the game 36-36, but the Bulldogs outscored the Bobcats 16-10 in the fourth quarter to get the win.
Mason Bragwell led all scorers with 23 points. Scout Bragwell followed for the Bulldogs with 11 points. Brant Bragwell finished the game with eight points, Kostner Bryant with seven points, David Platt with two points and Isaac Willingham with one point.
Luke Garrison and Isaac Riddle led Phil Campbell with 17 points and 16 points respectively. Nate Owens added four points and Austen Baker three points. Ben Williams, Brett Saint and Ridge Raper scored two points each.
Belgreen 83, Phillips 72
Mason Bragwell scored 30 points to lead the Belgreen Bulldogs past area opponent Phillips 83-72 last week.
Belgreen led Phillips 23-13 at the end of the first quarter and extended that lead to 47-32 at halftime. The Bulldogs led the Bears 73-55 at the end of the third quarter. Phillips made a run in the fourth quarter, outscoring Belgreen 17-10, but the Bulldogs held on for the area win.
Scout Bragwell and Willingham scored 17 points each for Belgreen. Brant Bragwell added eight points, and Kostner Bryant chipped in five points. Gaven Taylor, Koby Collins and Tanner Warhurst scored two points each.
Belgreen 79, Vina 43
Brant Bragwell and Scout Bragwell combined for 28 first-half points to help lead the Belgreen Bulldogs to an easy 79-43 win over the Vina Red Devils last week.
Belgreen jumped out to a 20-9 first quarter lead over Vina and led 41-22 at halftime. Belgreen increased that lead to 72-32 at the end of the third quarter.
Brant Bragwell led Belgreen with 27 points and six steals. Scout Bragwell followed with 20 points and five steals.
Timmy Newell led Vina with 17 points and 15 rebounds. Jackson Landers followed with 10 points.
Belgreen 70, Pickens County 29
Katie Dempsey dropped 29 points on Pickens County, helping the Bulldogs to an easy 70-29 win.
Belgreen led Pickens County 19-8 at the end of the first quarter and extended the lead to 44-14 at the half, cruising to the easy win.
Emma Willingham followed Dempsey with 12 points. Autumn Bragwell had nine points, Gracie Dempsey five points, Emma Dempsey four points, Kaley Chandler three points, Ansley Tate three points, Felicia Campos two points, Nora Castillo two points and Noella Willingham one point.
Belgreen 80, Vina 49
The Belgreen Bulldogs used a balanced scoring attack to get an easy 79-43 area win over the Vina Red Devils last week.
Belgreen had four players with 14 or more points to lead the way in the win. Gracie Dempsey led the Bulldogs with 19 points and hit four three-pointers. Emma Dempsey followed with 17 points, 10 rebounds and six steals. Emma Willingham added 16 points and hit four three-pointers. Ansley Tate contributed 14 points and 16 rebounds in the win.
Rayleigh Guin led Vina with 15 points. Emma Humphres added 11 points and seven rebounds. Sara Scott had nine points and 13 rebounds.
