Book Lovers celebrate MLK Day, Bicentennial
The Book Lovers Study Club recognized Martin Luther King Jr. Day with a service project at the Russellville Public Library.
“We’re excited they chose us for their service project this year, and we appreciate the work they put in,” library director Ashley Cummins said.
For the project, club members created eight activity bins that are now located in the children’s room of RPL. The bins are labeled with categories relevant to Alabama’s history and present. Examples include Alabama Facts and Symbols, Native Tribes of Alabama, Civil Rights in Alabama’s History and Famous People from Alabama.
“Book Lovers’ goal is to provide opportunities for children to learn about our great state of Alabama,” member Cheri McCain said.
Inside the bins are books, worksheet activities, Alabama travel brochures and Alabama-related stories and facts children and parents can enjoy exploring.
RPL has additional online resources for further exploration that can be accessed through the library’s computers.
