BHS closes season with three wins

Emma Dempsey and Ansley Tate combined for 48 points to lead the Belgreen Bulldogs past the Red Bay Tigers 68-53 last week.

Belgreen jumped out to a quick 18-11 lead in the first quarter and extended that lead to 34-25 at halftime. Red Bay cut into Belgreen’s lead in the third quarter, outscoring the Bulldogs 14-11. The Tigers led 45-39 heading into the fourth quarter, but Belgreen put the game on ice in the fourth quarter, outscoring Red Bay 23-14.

Emma Dempsey led Belgreen with 26 points. She also went 10-for-12 from the free throw line. Tate followed with 22 points.

Gabbie Moore and Katie Dempsey added seven points each. Emma Willingham scored four points and Gracie Dempsey two points.

The Bulldogs were 17-for-21 from the free throw line.

Mallori Miller led Red Bay with 25 points, sinking four three-pointers. Reagan Kuykendall added 10 points.

Macy Faulkner scored eight points, Destiny McCollister six points and Lila Blackburn four points.

Belgreen 42, Sulligent 37

Free throws can win and lose games. Last week, more than half of Belgreen’s points in a 42-37 win over Sulligent were free throws. The Bulldogs went 23-for-47 from the line to defeat the Blue Devils.

Sulligent led Belgreen 7-5 at the end of the first quarter and maintained the lead at halftime, 17-15. Belgreen claimed the lead in the third quarter, outscoring Sulligent 13-8 to take a 28-25 lead, and the Bulldogs outscored the Blue Devils 14-12 in the fourth quarter to hold onto the win.

Tate led Belgreen with 10 points. Autumn Bragwell added eight points, Gracie Dempsey seven points, Emma Dempsey seven points, Katie Dempsey five points, Moore four points and Willingham one point.

Belgreen 70, Hackleburg 39

Tate dominated the Hackleburg Panthers last week, scoring 28 points – 18 in the first half.

Belgreen led Hackleburg 19-11 at the end of the first quarter. The Bulldogs extended their lead to 20 points in the second quarter, outscoring the Panthers 21-9 to lead 40-20 at halftime.

Belgreen put the game away in the third quarter, outscoring Hackleburg 23-13 to extend the lead to 63-33 going into the fourth quarter.

Emma Dempsey and Katie Dempsey followed Tate with 11 points each. Moore added 10 points. Gracie Dempsey pitched in eight points and Bragwell two points.
