Red Bay tops Phil Campbell to open softball season

The Red Bay Tigers got off to a hot start, easily defeating the Phil Campbell Bobcats 13-3 in both teams’ season openers.

Red Bay led Phil Campbell 5-0 before the Bobcats picked up their first run in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Red Bay responded with six more runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a commanding 11-1 lead.

Red Bay outhit the Phil Campbell 16-5 in the game.

Leading the way for the Tigers were Lila Blackburn and lead-off hitter Anneliese Rogers. Blackburn was 5-for-5 at the plate, singling in the first, second and fourth innings. She doubled in the fifth inning and hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning.

Blackburn had eight RBIs in the game. Rogers, the lead-off hitter, went 4-for-5 with two RBIs and scored four runs.

Emmie Scott also added two hits and two RBIs and scored two runs.

Chloe Knoblock pitched six innings for the Tigers, striking out 10 batters and giving up four hits and three runs.
