PC boys shut out Marion

Cole Motes pitched a gem, shutting out the Marion County Red Raiders 11-0 last week. Motes went five innings, struck out eight batters and allowed three hits and no runs.

Phil Campbell secured the victory thanks to eight runs in the fourth inning. The Bobcats were led at the plate that inning on singles by Luke Barnwell and Brett Saint, a triple by Trey Leindecker and a double by Nate Owens.

Saint led the way at the plate, going two-for-three with an RBI and two runs scored.

Barnwell, Ridge Raper, Austen Baker, Owens and Rilan Garrison all had one hit each. Baker’s hit was a double.

Barnwell and Raper scored two runs.

Phil Campbell 11, Curry 10

Luke Barnwell doubled in two runs in the top of the seventh inning to help the Phil Campbell Bobcats top off a come-from-behind win over the Curry Yellow Jackets 11-10.

Phil Campbell trailed 9-6 going into the seventh inning and exploded for five runs to take a 11-9 lead. The Bobcats held the Yellow Jackets off in the bottom half of the inning to get the win.

Phil Campbell got on the board first in the top of the first inning, scoring four runs. Barnwell scored on a wild pitch, and Levi Crittenden scored on a bases-loaded walk to give the Bobcats a 2-0 lead. Owens singled in Leindecker to increase the lead to 3-0, and Motes scored on a fielder’s choice to close out the Bobcats’ scoring in the first inning.

Curry scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning and four runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 6-4 lead.

Phil Campbell tied the game in the top of the third inning on a double by Owens scoring Rilan Garrison and Saint.

Curry reclaimed the lead 7-6 in the bottom half of the third and extended the lead to 9-6 on two runs in the fourth.

Owens led the Bobcats at the plate, going three-for-four with three RBIs and a run scored. Barnwell went two-for-four with two RBIs and a run scored. Saint scored two runs for the Bobcats. Barnwell, Owens and Motes had a double each for the Bobcats.

Phil Campbell sent four pitchers to the mound: Raper, Saint, Crittenden and Motes. Motes got the win.

Curry 3, Phil Campbell 0

Phil Campbell struggled at the plate in game one at Curry. The Bobcats managed two hits and were shut out 3-0 by the Yellow Jackets.

Both of Phil Campbell’s hits came from Levi Crittenden. Three pitchers went to the mound for the Bobcats, giving up five hits and three runs.

Winfield 2, Phil Campbell 1

The Phil Campbell Bobcats lost to Winfield last week 2-1, despite having outhit the Pirates 7-2.

The Bobcats got their only run in the top of the first inning when Baker singled in Barnwell.

Winfield tied the game in the bottom of the second inning and took the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Barnwell and Owens had two hits each, with each getting a double. The Bobcats also got hits out of Raper, Baker and Garrison.

Owens went three innings on the mound, striking out six, allowing two hits and a run. Barnwell closed out the last three innings of the game, striking out three and giving up a run.
