Red Bay softball gets wins over Sheffield, Winfield

The Red Bay Tigers picked up two wins last week: over the Sheffield Bulldogs (13-3) and the Winfield Pirates (5-4).

In the Sheffield game, Red Bay took advantage of eight Bulldog errors en route to the easy win.

The Tigers took control early, scoring four runs in the first inning, and led 4-0 at the end of three innings. Sheffield scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning to close the gap, but Red Bay answered with five runs in the bottom half of the inning to seal the win.

Layla Bilstein led Red Bay with a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored. Chloe Knoblock had three hits, an RBI and two runs scored. Annaliese Rogers and Lila Blackburn scored two runs each.

Knoblock struck out nine batters and gave up three runs on four hits.

In the Winfield game, Red Bay won on a walk-off base-on-balls. With the game tied 4-4 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Knoblock drew a walk, scoring Emmie Scott for the winning run.

Blackburn led the Tigers at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a double and triple, an RBI and two runs scored. Sarah Eaton had two hits and an RBI.

Knoblock and Blackburn combined for a quality pitching performance, striking out four batters and giving up three earned runs on seven hits.

Red Bay was able to win despite committing six errors in the field.
