Golden Tigers slam Sheffield at Gulf Coast Classic

Russellville 5, Foley 3

The Golden Tigers continued play in the Gulf Coast Classic with a win at Foley March 26.

Russellville scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning to break a 3-3 tie, and Caden Parker pitched a complete game to get the win. Parker threw 99 pitches and allowed one earned run and seven hits. He struck out five Lions and walked two.

RHS had four hits in the game – by Cole Barnett, Devin Buckhalter, Jackson Lindsey and Will Rogers. Barnett’s hit was a double, while Nate Green had two sacrifices. Casen Heaps also helped the cause with one.

Russellville RBIs were by Barnett, Green, Buckhalter and Lindsey.

The Golden Tigers were active on the bases with two steals each by Buckhalter and Rogers and one by Rowe Gallagher.

Russellville 18, Sheffield 1

The Gulf Coast Classic wrapped up March 27 with a dominating performance by Russellville over Sheffield in a game at Baldwin County High School.

The game ended after five innings, but RHS had time to outhit Sheffield 13-1 in the contest.

The only SHS run came in the bottom half of the last inning.

Nine Golden Tigers had hits, with Barnett, Parker, Heaps and Cam Bonn leading the way with two each. Jackson Lindsey, Gordon White, Peyton Ray, John David Bishop and Cade Fretwell all added one hit apiece for RHS. Barnett and Bishop had extra-base hits, and Barnett led the team with four RBIs.

Tanner James got the start on the mound and picked up the win. He worked four innings, allowing no runs or hits while striking out eight without a walk. Nathan Brockway came on to pitch the game’s final inning, and he struck out two Sheffield batters.

Russellville 5, Arab 4

Russellville traveled to Arab Saturday and took the first game of the day with a win over the Knights. With the victory, the Golden Tigers improved their record on the season to 11-11.

Green had a game-winning RBI hit in the sixth to help RHS to its fourth-straight win. Buckhalter had a 3-for-5 performance at the plate, and he also scored a couple of runs. Barnett and White added singles for Russellville, while Parker had a double.

White had two RBIs, and Lindsey added one for RHS, while Hunter Briles picked up a stolen base during the game.

Parker and White pitched two innings, and Rowe Gallagher worked three, with the RHS hurlers combining to strike out seven Arab batters.

Etowah 7, Russellville 3

The fourth-ranked in Class 5A Blue Devils finished the game strong and got the win over Russellville in game two Saturday at Arab.

RHS led 1-0 after three innings before Etowah plated two in the fourth, two in the sixth and three more in the seventh frame. Russellville had five hits, with Barnett and Lindsey getting two each, while Green had one. Buckhalter, James and Bishop did the pitching for RHS.
