Bobcats breeze past New Hope to advance

The Phil Campbell Bobcats had no problem putting away their Class 3A first round play-off opponent Monday. The Bobcats swept New Hope 11-1 and 13-0.

In game one of the series, Nate Owens came up big for the Bobcats on the mound and at the plate. Owens pitched three and two-thirds innings, striking out six batters and allowing two hits and one earned run. At the plate, Owens had two hits, both doubles, and three RBIs.

Mason Swinney went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and scored twice. Ty Leindecker had two hits, including a double, and three RBIs. Ridge Raper had a double and an RBI and scored twice. Austen Baker crossed the plate three times.

Phil Campbell led New Hope 4-1 before the Bobcats broke the game open with a six-run fourth inning to put the game away.

In game two of the series, Raper pitched a five-hit shutout and doubled in three runners to lead Phil Campbell past New Hope 13-0.

Phil Campbell put this game away early with a seven-run first inning.

Luke Barnwell and Baker scored three runs each. Owens and Swinney scored two runs each.

Phil Campbell will play the winner of Glencoe and Hanceville Friday.
