Russellville CTE students support elementary libraries

Recently Russellville City Schools Career and Technical Education students participated in a service project that benefited their younger counterparts. They began their project, Leaders Helping Readers, during CTE Month in February.

CTE director Natalie Bendall said the students asked for donations to benefit the elementary schools in the system, West Elementary and Russellville Elementary. Every $20 donated was given back to the libraries in the form of a gift card for magazines that explore different career choices. CTE students ended up raising $640 that was split between the two libraries.

“Russellville Elementary School students are excited to be able to have magazine subscriptions donated to the library from the RCS CTE,” said RES librarian Leanne James. WES librarian Cassie Goodwin echoed those sentiments.

James said there has not been much library enhancement in the past 14 years at RES because funds for library resources have been limited and magazine subscriptions had to be cut out.

James said she plans on letting her students provide their input on what magazine subscriptions they would enjoy.
