BTCPA stages ‘Finders Keepers’ to close season

The Bay Tree Council for the Performing Arts in Red Bay has announced its final production for the 2018-2019 season: “Finders Keepers” by Donald Payton and directed by Georgia Jeffreys.

Performance dates are June 20-22 at 7 p.m. and June 23 at 2 p.m. at the Weatherford Centre in Red Bay.

In a play BTCPA’s Scotty Kennedy describes as having “one of the wildest finishes ever,” Hercules Nelson’s aunt and uncle invite Hercules and his best friend Lucas to spend the weekend with them. With suitcases in hand, the boys arrive at Uncle Bob’s to discover that Uncle Bob is a mortician – and there’s a funeral scheduled Monday.

Well, it’s not long before things start happening in ways that would put most brave men to flight. For one thing, the corpse walks, reads the paper and climbs into bed with Hercules. The boys are terrified until they find out Mr. Quigley, the corpse, isn’t really dead.

It turns out someone tried to knock off Mr. Quigley while he was sleeping, so he devised a plan: he’d make his family think he was dead then show up at his own funeral and trap the guilty party.

No doubt Mr. Quigley had a good plan, and no doubt things would have ended peacefully, but there’s two things he failed to consider: Lucas Maxwell and Hercules Nelson.

Tickets, which are $8 each, went on sale June 10 and can be reserved by calling 256-356-9829 or going by the Weatherford Centre weekdays from 2-4 p.m. For group sales contact Beth Hammock at 256-356-9286.
