Watermelon Festival features Journey tribute band

Classic rock music fans have a lot to look forward to Aug. 15-16 at Franklin County’s 39th annual Watermelon Festival. Saturday night the headlining act will be Absolute Journey Tribute, a Journey tribute band, from 8:30-10 p.m.

“The Chamber is excited to have Absolute Journey Tribute at this year’s Watermelon Festival,” said Chamber of Commerce executive director Cassie Medley. “This band is sure to please Journey fans of all ages.”

Medley said the Chamber of Commerce was contacted about the Journey cover band because of the Eagles cover band, 7 Bridges, that has previously played at the Watermelon Festival.

In addition to headliner, a variety of musical talents will be featured this year, spanning multiple genres.

Rewind will kick off Friday night’s entertainment, playing a mixture of classics from the ’60s-’80s. Rewind will be followed by country artist Joseph Baldwin and his band. Lynyrd Skynyrd cover band Shootin’ You Straight will close out the night.

Saturday evening’s entertainment will begin with Dixie Mafia, a band that plays a mixture of country, rock and more. Kozmic Mama will play next, performing soul, blues, R&B and rock music. Headliner Absolute Journey Tribute will close out the night and the festival.
