Make time for Hoedown festival

Summer has returned and with it some of the greatest treasures of Franklin County: our annual community festivals.

In the coming months we will turn out for seasonal favorites like Jam on Sloss Lake, Vina’s JulyFest, Red Bay Founders Day, Spruce Pine Day, the Spirit of Hodges Festival and, of course, the famed and beloved Franklin County Watermelon Festival. These community gatherings and more are sprinkled throughout the year – and we don’t have to wait much longer for the first opportunity.

Festival season in Franklin County begins this weekend with the Phil Campbell Hoedown. The 18th annual Hoedown is scheduled for June 14-15 in downtown Phil Campbell, and the schedule is packed full of all the best festival entertainment. Whether you’re in it for the music, the contests or the vendors, there’s something for everyone at the Hoedown.

We encourage you to make plans to join your friends and neighbors this weekend for some good family-friendly fun. Clear your calendar and grab a handful of cash and a lawn chair and head on out.

Don’t let this annual event pass you by. It’s easy to putter around and put off and ultimately find yourself saying, “Oh, I meant to go this year. Maybe next year” – but as “they” say, there is no time like the present. If you’ve never been before, make this the year you make the Hoedown a favorite summer event. If you go every year, keep up the tradition! Either way, we hope to see you there.

Our community festivals represent everything that makes Franklin County the wonderful place we love – good people, good fun, good times.

We’ll be at the Hoedown to try to capture the spirit of the event in words and photographs, so be sure to say hello. We also welcome your own pictures of the event, if you’d like to share them. Just send them to news@fct.wpengine.com.
