Tigers get defensive in homecoming win

The Red Bay Tigers celebrated an early homecoming this year with a 20-0 shutout win over the Hatton Hornets.

The Tigers got off to a slow start offensively, but a big defensive play early in the second quarter started the ball rolling for the Tigers.

Logan Scott sacked the Hatton quarterback in the end zone for a safety to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead with 9:42 to go in the first quarter.

Hatton had to kick off following the safety, and the Tiger offense found the spark it needed to get going. Jalen Vinson capped off the drive with a 10-yard touchdown pass to Arden Hamilton to give Red Bay an 8-0 lead with 8:33 to go in the first half.

The Tigers didn’t score again until late in the third quarter when Vinson connected with Hamilton again – this time for a 62-yard touchdown strike. The Tigers carried a 14-0 lead into the fourth quarter.

Red Bay added a final touchdown with 5:57 to go in the game when Vinson scrambled into the end zone for a three-yard touchdown run..

Scott led the defense with the safety and six solo tackles. Hunter Burks and Braden Parker also had six solo tackles to lead the defense, along with three assists.

Red Bay’s defense held Hatton to 82 total yards of offense – 58 passing, 24 rushing.

Offensively, the Tigers had 270 total yards.

Vinson completed nine of 19 passes but threw for 170 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran the ball 10 times for 66 yards and a touchdown.

Hamilton caught four passes for 97 yards and two touchdowns.

Reagan Humphries was crowned Homecoming Queen. Bailey Bolton was crowned football queen, and Olivia Hill was crowned Homecoming Princess.

Red Bay will host Addison Friday night.
