Lady Golden Tigers seek consistency on volleyball court

The early part of the 2019 volleyball season for the Russellville Lady Golden Tigers has been a struggle. RHS took on seven different opponents over the course of the past week, but the team failed to beat any of them, causing their record to fall to 2-15.

Russellville hosted West Point Sept. 10 and dropped to 1-2 in Class 5A, Area 14 play after a 3-0 sweep by the Lady Warriors. Game scores for the match were 25-23, 25-11 and 25-15.

RHS fell behind early in the first game but showed good effort for head coach Whitney Glover.  The Lady Golden Tigers rallied late in the opener, but their comeback attempt fell short.

Lexie Glass had nine kills in the match for Russellville, and Caroline Sparks had four. Chalea Clemmons finished with four kills and five digs, while Callie Palmer added three kills. Leah Rushing picked up 13 assists and four digs, and Krista Sikes pitched in with six assists. Alivia Clemmons had six digs for RHS, and Briana Ramirez had 10.

RHS traveled to Haleyville for a tri-match with the Lady Lions and Muscle Shoals Sept. 12.

Against Haleyville, RHS fell by scores of 14-25 and 24-26. Muscle Shoals defeated RHS 2-0 by scores of 25-22 and 25-19.

Russellville and a number of other schools spent Saturday in Hartselle taking part in the Eddie Preuitt Ford Tournament.

The Lady Golden Tigers fell in matches to Madison Academy (0-2), Danville (0-2), Austin (1-2) and Pelham (0-2).
