With seconds to go in the game, the Red Bay Tigers stopped a potential game-winning drive by the Addison Bulldogs on third-and-goal at the five-yard line to preserve a 16-10 region win as time ran off the clock.  

The win keeps the Tigers undefeated on the season heading into an open week.

Coming out of a timeout, the Bulldogs’ quarterback took the snap and rolled to the right.  Finding no one open in the end zone, he decided to run the ball, and a host of Tiger defenders – Cam McKinney, Logan Scott and Gavin Edgmon – swarmed him and stopped him short.  

With no timeouts remaining, Addison wasn’t able to get another play off before time expired.

“That was tremendous effort on the part of our guys,” said Red Bay Coach Michael Jackson. “It was a very physical game – probably one of the most physical we have played in several years. Our defense played great all night long, and our offense made some big plays that allowed us to score when we did.”

After a scoreless first quarter, Red Bay struck first on a nine-yard run by quarterback Jalen Vinson. The two-point conversion run by Colyn Humphres was good, giving the Tigers an 8-0 lead with 7:36 to go in the second quarter.

The Bulldogs put their first points on the board with a 17-yard field goal, with just less than a minute to play in the half, to cut Red Bay’s lead to 8-3.

Addison took a 10-8 lead with 8:13 to go in the third quarter on a four-yard touchdown run.

Red Bay regained the lead on the first play of the fourth quarter on a two-yard run by Vinson and two-point conversion run by Humphres to make the score 16-10.

Joshua Blanton led the way for the Tigers on the defensive side of the football with nine solo tackles and three assists. Edgmon had eight assists and four solo tackles for 12 total tackles. McKinney had 11 total tackles – five solo, six assists.

Vinson completed 13 of 22 passes for 190 yards on the night. He also ran for 41 yards on 10 carries and scored two touchdowns.

Arden Hamilton had six catches for 100 yards.

Red Bay will be off this week before hosting Belmont Sept. 27.
