Vina Red Devils blow out Cherokee Indians 58-18 for second win of season
After picking up their first win in more than a year, the Vina Red Devils followed up with major exclamation point – a 58-18 win over the Cherokee Indians.
The program’s biggest blowout in recent memory was never in doubt, as the Red Devils controlled the game from the start and built a commanding 50-0 halftime lead.
“I am very proud of our guys,” said first-year head coach Ben Guin. “The boys played great as a team, and it showed. They played well defensively as well as offensively.”
Jackson Landers scored first for Vina on a 37-yard touchdown run. Landers followed that up with a 46-yard touchdown pass to Braden Moomaw.
The Red Devils also scored on a 37-yard run by Elijah Whitfield before Landers had another big scoring run, this one from 51 yards out.
Isaac Shelton added a two-yard run for a touchdown. Malachi Fletcher followed it up with a 34-yard touchdown run.
Vina also scored on the defensive side of the football when Zach Davidson intercepted at Cherokee pass and ran it 35 yards for a touchdown.
Not to be left out, the special teams got in on the action with Landers returning a punt 50 yards for a touchdown.
Vina will host Phil Campbell Friday night for homecoming.
