Hi folks,

Everyone loves a parade, and this past Sunday proved this to be true. The streets of Russellville were lined with men, women and children ready to enjoy the Veterans Day Parade.

A real sense of patriotism filled the air. Flags were on display, and a lot of people were waving their flags as the parade came down Jackson Avenue.

Every entry was outstanding, and the Russellville band really did a marvelous job; the members of the band were smiling as they marched and played.

Mr. Grant Akins did a marvelous job in organizing the parade, and every year it gets better and better.

A lot of memories filled my mind as I viewed the parade. I remember so well how veteran Mr. James Wilson always took pride in the part he played in the parade, as did Mr. Ralph Wingo, a World War II veteran. Ralph always looked forward to riding in the parade and pitching candy to children.

We all owe a debt of gratitude to the people who played parts in keeping our county free; may we never forget.

During the moth of November, we have said goodbye to two veterans – maybe more – from Franklin County.

Mr. Danny Clark served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was a very decorated soldier. Danny was a quiet kind of fellow but truly a great friend. He said what he meant, and meant what he said, like it or not.

He was well respected and a true friend, to say the least. A military service was presented at the gravesite honoring his service.

Mr. Laverne Jones also passed away this month. Laverne was a good citizen, and he served his country well. A huge crowd of folks turned out to say goodbye, and a military ceremony honoring his service was presented.

Mr. Jones served his city as well. He was elected to the city council and did a wonderful job in that capacity. He will certainly be missed, but

good memories will always live on.

Our condolences go out to both the families of Danny Clark and Laverne Jones.

Our next holiday for November will be Thanksgiving. This is a great time for so many folks as they gather for family get-togethers, and it is certainly an excellent time to remember how thankful we should all be.
