Big first quarter lifts Belgreen past Tharptown

The Belgreen Bulldogs dominated the first quarter in their matchup against the Tharptown Wildcats. An almost flawless shooting performance for the Bulldogs allowed Belgreen to build a 15-point first quarter lead en route to a 67-40 win over their county rival.

Will Bonner led the Bulldogs with 21 points, including 13 points in the first half alone. Scout Bragwell followed with 17 points and Colin Bonner with 13 points – 11 of which came in the first half.

Belgreen led Tharptown 25-10 at the end of the first quarter and extended that lead to 40-19 by halftime. Tharptown had a better third quarter, outscoring Belgreen 17-14 to cut the lead to 54-36, but Belgreen dominated the fourth quarter to get the easy win.

Also scoring for Belgreen was David Plott with seven points, Will Donohoe with four points, Bryant Hubbert with three points and Isac Willlingham with two points.

Belgreen hit eight three-pointers on the night.

Winston Nolen led Tharptown with 10 points. Luis Valdez followed with nine points, Colton Simmons with eight points, Tyler Amos with six points, Edwin Garcia with six points and Edward Lopez with two points.
