AFF women promote farming in Franklin

Members of the Women’s Leadership Committee of Franklin County, a division of the Alabama Farmers Federation, met at Belgreen High School Nov. 20 to help promote farming in conjunction with Franklin County’s Farm-City Week activities.

The committee donated books to the school’s library to go in the Learning Barn Bookshelf Center, which the organization presented earlier as a service project. Each school library in Franklin County has been given a barn bookshelf and some 50 books related to farming – for a total of 350 books in seven libraries.

Attending were Carol Glass, Annette Sturdivant, Elizabeth Daniel, Eyvonne Herring and Becky Hester.

“The Apple Orchard Riddle” was read to Briana Champion’s class, and a treat bag with an apple in it was given to each student.

Another book shared with the class was “Right This Very Minute,” which detailed ways farmers help provide food for each meal. The story ends by encouraging the reader to consider becoming a farmer in the future.
