Red Bay captures area title

Lane Shewbart propelled the Red Bay Tigers to the 2A Area 13 title, scoring 26 points in a 79-56 win over the Sulligent Blue Devils.

Red Bay hosts the Sheffield Bulldogs in the subregion Tuesday night in a rematch from last year’s nail biter.

Red Bay led Sulligent for the entire game but pulled away in the third quarter. The Tigers led 18-13 at the end of the first quarter and 31-24 at halftime.

Shewbart, the Tigers’ big post player, stepped out of the lane and knocked down two three-pointers and went seven for seven from the free throw line to help Red Bay outscore the Blue Devils 24-10 in the third period and take a 55-34 lead.

Red Bay went 25-for-33 from the free throw line, including 17-for-22 in the second half.

Tanner Hamilton went seven for seven from the line and scored 15 points.

Clay Allison, Jalen Vinson and Braden Ray added eight points each. Landon Glover added five points, Hunter Burks four points, Jayden Anderson three points and Gage Bays two points.

Semifinals: Red Bay 59, Winston County 48

The Red Bay Tigers put away the Winston County Yellow Jackets in the first half and cruised to 59-48 win in the boys Class 2A Area 13 tournament.

Red Bay jumped out to a 20-9 first quarter lead and extended the lead to 35-18 by halftime, effectively putting the game away.

Ray led the Tigers, making four three-pointers and scoring 14 points. Allison and Shewbart scored 11 points and 10 points respectively. Tanner Hamilton added eight points, Arden Hamilton six points and Bays three points. Vinson, Burks and Glover scored two points each. Andrew Ray added one point.
