Russellville IDB suspends board operations

The Russellville Industrial Development Board is the latest group to make a decision about how to conduct operations during the continuing COVID-19 pandemic.

In a specially-called teleconference Tuesday, a quorum of members of the board voted to suspend all business operations of the board and extend all pending matters and deadlines “until such time as the prohibition against public meetings has been lifted by Gov. Ivey.”

In her stay-at-home order issued April 4, Gov. Kay Ivey levied the ruling that all Alabamians should remain in their homes except for specific purposes, to include tasks like getting groceries, seeking or providing medical care or going to work if one’s place of business is among those deemed “essential.”

RIDB Chairman Gregg Trapp said given the new order, the RIDB had to take this step to suspend operations and extend deadlines.

“We don’t have a choice. We can’t have a public meeting right now,” Trapp said.

He added the RIDB does not maintain a regular meeting schedule but meets whenever it needs to conduct business.

He said there are no specific examples of deadlines or projects this resolution would affect, but that all RIDB business matters fall under the resolution.
