Belgreen girls defeat Hubbard, Russellville in Monday tri-match

The Belgreen Bulldogs won a trimatch Monday against R.A. Hubbard and Russellville, beating the Chiefs 25-13, 25-14 and 25-13 and the Golden Tigers 25-16 and 25-13.

In the Hubbard match, Emma Dempsey had 16 kills and three aces. Bailey Oliver had 10 aces, three digs and six kills.

The match with Hubbard was an area contest for the Bulldogs.

“I didn’t think we played too well against Hubbard,” said Belgreen Coach Susie Tverberg. “We had entirely too many service errors, and we did not move and run the court very well.”

In the Russellville match, Kaley Chandler had six digs and two kills. Kelsey Wilson had three aces. Dempsey had six kills and one ace. Oliver had three kills, two digs and two aces.

“I felt like we played much better against Russellville,” Tverberg said. “We made several good digs, which led to good sets, and were able to execute our offense. We are a much better team when we run our offense correctly.

“We still have to get better defensively,” Tverberg added. “If we keep working, we will get there.

“I was proud of them.”

Belgreen also took the opportunity Monday to honor the team’s four seniors: Dempsey, Oliver, Wilson and MaKayla Lane.
