Tharptown volleyball gets win to start season
The Tharptown Wildcats gave first-year head coach Kamri Fleming an opening night win at Cherokee last week.
“I am really excited for these girls,” said Fleming. “They have worked hard, and it was a great reward.”
Destin Martin made her varsity debut as a starter as a setter, and she served five straight balls to bring the Wildcats back from a 7-12 deficit.
Jaiden Gaston and Bailey Nipper had four kills each. Perla Chavez had three kills, and Lesley Staggs and Abi Sanchez had one kill each.
Gaston and Sanchez both finished the game with one block a piece.
Bernice Bahena had a great night starting at libero with seven digs. She also made three hustle plays to keep a rally alive.
Macy Petree also finished the game with two digs.
Tharptown also beat Red Bay in an area contest 3-0. Taylor Cameron had four kills, Jaiden Gaston three kills, Chavez two kills and Staggs two kills.
Petree had an ace, and Bahena had four digs.
