Belgreen standout signs with Northeast

Belgreen standout softball player Emma Dempsey will continue her education and softball career at Northeast Mississippi Community College in Booneville, Mississippi, next year. The senior pitcher signed a scholarship with the Tigers this past week.

The senior pitcher has a career record of 53-16. She has pitched 14 no-hitters and 27 shutouts and struck out 431 batters – and all this with a short junior season because of coronavirus shutdowns.

Dempsey will go in the AHSAA record book for pitching 21 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run in 2019.

At the plate, Dempsey has a career batting average of .504 and an on base percentage of .541. She has 208 career hits.

The Tigers signed Dempsey as a pitcher, and the senior said she is excited about the opportunity.

“It means a lot to me to have the chance to play college ball,” said Dempsey, who was crowned Belgreen’s homecoming queen Friday night as well. “I am so thankful. God has blessed me with the opportunity. I love everything about Northeast, and I am so excited to be going there.”
