Belgreen boys improve to 5-0
The Belgreen Bulldogs improved to 5-0 with an easy 94-33 win over Phillips last week.
Belgreen put the game away immediately, building a 31-8 lead in the first quarter and extending that lead to 55-14 at halftime.
Will Bonner led the Bulldogs with 16 points, followed by his brother Colin Bonner with 15 points and Isac Willingham with 14 points.
Will Donahoe and Brodie Vandiver added nine points each. Scout Bragwell and Hadden Taylor scored seven points each. Canaan Stough had six points, Austin James five points and Alex Betts four points.
Belgreen 74, Sheffield 52
Will Bonner scored 39 points to lead the Belgreen Bulldogs past Sheffield last week. He scored 14 points in the first quarter and 17 points in the second quarter.
Belgreen led Sheffield 23-12 at the end of the first quarter and extended that lead to 48-22 at halftime. Sheffield outscored Belgreen 19-8 in the third quarter to cut the Bulldog’s lead to 56-41.
Colin Bonner added 16 points. Bragwell had nine points, James five points, Willingham three points and Betts two points.
Belgreen 77, Vina 22
Belgreen outscored Vina 42-6 in the first half on the way to an easy 77-22 win over the Red Devils.
Will Bonner led Belgreen with 20 points, and Colin Bonner followed with 14 points. Willingham (11), James (nine), Vandiver (six), Carson Cox (six), Betts (six) and Hadden Taylor (five) also scored for Belgreen.
Scorers for Vina were Dawson Miller with eight points, Connor Davidson with six points, Hunter Griffith with three points, Braden Pardue with three points and Nathan Byrd with two points.
For the Lady Bulldogs, Emma Dempsey scored 23 points, including 12 points in a big second quarter, to lead Belgreen past the Vina Red Devils.
The county rivals battled to a 10-10 tie at the end of the first quarter. Belgreen got some separation in the second quarter thanks to Dempsey’s 12 points, giving the Bulldogs a 31-24 lead at halftime.
Belgreen extended that lead to 40-31 at the end of the third quarter.
Noelle Willingham and Kaley Chandler followed Dempsey, scoring 12 points each for Belgreen. Felicia Campos and Madison Vandiver added two points.
Vina’s Abbie Mitchell led all scorers with 24 points. She was followed by Hailey Cantrell with seven points, Kaitlyn Athey and Sara Scott with five points each and Abbie Petree with four points.
Belgreen 57, Sheffield 26
Kaley Chandler had a big second quarter to propel Belgreen past Sheffield 57-26.
It was the third win by Belgreen over Sheffield in a week.
Sheffield led Belgreen 9-7 at the end of the first quarter, but Chandler hit three three-pointers and scored 11 points in the second quarter to help give Belgreen a 30-13 halftime lead.
Belgreen extended that lead to 49-19 by the end of the third quarter.
Chandler led the Bulldogs with 19 points. She was followed by Dempsey with 16 points.
Noelle Willingham and Katie Cooper added eight points. Hannah Borden, Madison Vandiver and Lily Blackburn scored two points each.
Belgreen 73, Phillips 30
Belgreen had no problems blowing away area nemesis Phillips this past week, 73-30.
Dempsey and Chandler combined for 41 points to lead the effort.
Belgreen established control of the game early, building a commanding 22-8 first quarter lead. The Bulldog girls put the game out of reach by halftime, extending their lead to 42-13.
Dempsey scored 23 points, while Chandler added 18 points. Madison Vandiver and Felicia Campos scored eight points each. Noelle Willingham had six points, Morgan Vandiver four points, Sydnee West three points, Borden two points and Cooper two points.
