Bobcat teams defeat Vinemont, East Lawrence

Luke Garrison led Phil Campbell with 22 points in a 71-67 win over Vinemont this past week.

The Bobcats led Vinemont 12-11 at the end of the first quarter, but Garrison hit four three-pointers and scored 12 points in the second quarter to help Phil Campbell outscore Vinemont 28-10 and take a 40-21 halftime lead.

Vinemont started a second half comeback in the third quarter, outscoring Phil Campbell 25-17 to cut the Bobcat lead to 57-46. Vinemont outscored the Bobcats 18-14 in the fourth quarter, but the Bobcats were able to hold off the visiting team.

Mason Swinney followed Garrison with 14 points. Bryant Hyde followed with 13 points to round out Bobcat players in double figures.

Phil Campbell 63, East Lawrence 57

After fending off a hot start by the East Lawrence Eagles, the Phil Campbell Bobcats outscored the visiting team in each of the next three quarters to get the 63-57 win.

East Lawrence led Phil Campbell 21-17 at the end of the first quarter. The Bobcats outscored the Eagles 16-11 to take a 33-32 halftime lead, and Phil Campbell extended that lead to 50-48 at the end of the third quarter.

Cam Habada made three three-pointers in the fourth quarter to help the Bobcats hang onto the win.

Garrison led the Bobcats with 13 points, making three three-pointers. Habada added 11 points, and Mason Swinney scored 10 points.

Others scoring for Phil Campbell were Blain Goodson with nine points, Bryant Hyde with six points, Jonah Fisher with four points, Brett Saint with four points and Kyle Pace and Canaan Clay with two points each.

GIRLS

The Phil Campbell Lady Bobcats went completely unchallenged in area play this past week.

Phil Campbell was able to limit three area opponents – Danville, Vinemont and East Lawrence – to a combined 16 first-half points. The most any of the teams scored in a first-half quarter was four points – Danville in the second quarter and East Lawrence in the second quarter.

Phil Campbell 43, Danville 20

Phil Campbell beat Danville 43-20, leading the Hawks 26-3 at halftime.

Katie Thomas and Kaitlynn Mills scored 11 points each to lead the Bobcats against Danville. Olivia Taylor had nine points, and Kenner Scott got five points. Faith Cook, Makayla Baker and Trinity Thomas scored two points each. Madison Branch added one point.

Phil Campbell 49, Vinemont 28

Phil Campbell beat Vinemont 49-28 and led the Eagles 33-7 at halftime. Katilynn Mills led Phil Campbell with 11 points.

Phil Campbell 55, East Lawrence 16

Phil Campbell beat East Lawrence 53-16 and led the Eagles 28-6 at halftime.

Three players were in double figures, with Taylor leading with 12 points and Cook and Thomas following with 10 points each.
