Red Bay teams flatten Sulligent

The Red Bay Tigers varsity girls team notched two area wins this past week, beating Sulligent 31-22 and Aliceville 34-17. The boys split, beating Sulligent 53-42 but falling to Aliceville 39-38.

In the Sulligent game, Red Bay led 11-9 at the end of the first quarter and 19-16 at halftime. There was almost no scoring in the third quarter, with the Tigers outscoring the Blue Devils 2-0 to take a 21-16 lead.

No player reached double figures. Destiny McCollister led the way with nine points, and Lila Blackburn followed with seven. Macy Faulkner and Kirsten Black scored six points each. Kylie Lindley added three points, and Madeline Ledbetter got one point.

In varsity boys action, Braden Ray scored 20 points to lead Red Bay past Sulligent. The Tigers led the Blue Devils 10-8 at the end of the first quarter and 27-22 at halftime. Red Bay extended that lead to 48-38 at the end of the third quarter.

Jalen Vinson followed Ray with nine points. Landon Glover added seven points, and Gage Bays got six points.  Carson Corum and Lane Shewbart had two points each.

In the Aliceville game, the Red Bay girls came out strong at the start, taking a 13-3 first quarter lead. The Tigers led 21-12 at halftime and 27-13 at the end of the third.

Faulkner led Red Bay with 12 points followed by Blackburn with 10 points. Lindley added six points, McCollister four points and Kirsten Scott two points.

In the varsity boys game, the Tigers took their first area loss, falling to Aliceville 39-38.

Aliceville held a slim lead throughout the game, leading 9-5 at the end of the first quarter, 15-14 at halftime and 22-21 at the end of the third quarter.

Ray led Red Bay with 12 points. Vinson added eight points, Corum five points, Hunter Burks five points, Glover four points and Shewbart three points.
