A strong start by Kylie Lindley and strong finish by Destin McCollister helped Red Bay upend rival Belgreen 46-40 this past week.

Lindley started the game hot, hitting three three-pointers and scoring 11 points in the first quarter to help the Tigers build a 16-6 lead. After a stalemate in the second quarter, Red Bay led 28-18 at halftime.

Belgreen outscored Red Bay 10-8 in the third quarter to cut the Tigers’ lead to 36-28. McCollister scored all 10 of Red Bay’s points in the fourth quarter to hold off a comeback attempt by the Bulldogs.

McCollister led Red Bay with 19 points, and Lindley followed with 14 points. Lila Blackburn added eight points, Jaycee Vinson three points and Madeline Ledbetter two points.

Emma Dempsey led all scorers with 25 points for Belgreen. Dempsey made 13 of 14 free throws on the night.  Dacota Green added eight points, Noelle Willingham three points and Kaley Chandler three points.

Winfield 56, Red Bay 31

After a strong start, the Red Bay Tigers couldn’t keep up, falling to the Winfield Pirates 56-31.

McCollister led the Tigers with 13 points.

Belmont 57, Red Bay 32

Red Bay was dominated from the start by their state-line rival Belmont, losing 57-32. The Cardinals led the Tigers 32-21 at halftime and put the game away in the third quarter, outscoring Red Bay 17-3.

BOYS

Jalen Vinson and Lane Shewbart helped the Red Bay Tigers to a dominating start over their state-line rival Belmont.

Vinson (8) and Shewbart (9) combined for 17 of Red Bay’s 19 first-quarter points, and the Tigers held Belmont to two points in the opening period of play.

Red Bay extended the lead to 28-10 at halftime and led 45-23 at the end of the third quarter.

Vinson led Red Bay with 14 points, followed by Shewbart with 10 points. Landon Glover added nine points, Braden Ray seven points and Gage Bays five points. Aiden Quinn, Hunter Burks and Alex Kennedy scored four points each. Jayden Anderson added three points, Kyser Jackson two points and Carson Corumn one point.

Winfield 59, Red Bay 45

Red Bay couldn’t overcome a hot start by the Winfield Pirates, losing 59-45.

Ray led Red Bay with 18 points.
