Belgreen closes season with win against Sheffield

The Belgreen Bulldogs closed out the regular season with a 20-2 record with a big win over Sheffield, 69-45.

Belgreen led Sheffield 12-8 at the end of the first quarter. Belgreen pulled away in the second and third quarter, outscoring Sheffield 21-9 and 21-13 to take a 54-30 lead into the final period of play.

Will Bonner led Belgreen with 23 points, followed by Collin Bonner with 19 points. Scout Bragwell added 11 points. Isac Willingham finished the game with nine points, Austin James four points, Canaan Stough two points and Alex Jarnigan two points.

In varsity girls action, Belgreen blew out Sheffield 64-36.

Kaley Chandler scored 27 of her game-high 29 points in the first half alone, helping Belgreen to a 46-18 lead.

Emma Dempsey followed Chandler with 14 points, and Carson Hovater had 11 points.

The Belgreen girls also beat Covenant Christian 49-22 earlier in the week.

The Bulldogs led 13-8 at the end of the first quarter but exploded past the Eagles in the second quarter.

Dacota Green scored 11 of her 13 points in the second quarter to help Belgreen outscore Covenant 21-7 and take a 34-15 halftime lead.

Noelle Willingham led Belgreen with 15 points, and Green had 13 points. Dempsey added eight points, Bryn Scott five points, Morgan Vandiver four points, Sydnee West two points and Hannah Bordan two points.

In boys action against Covenant Christian, Will Bonner scored 25 points to help Belgreen win 58-52.

Tied at 10 at the end of the first quarter, Belgreen outscored Covenant 19-12 in the second quarter to take a 29-22 halftime lead. Belgreen extended that lead to 44-36 at the end of the third quarter and held off a late run in the fourth.

Collin Bonner followed Will Bonner with 14 points. Isac Willingham added eight points, Bragwell had six points, and Stough finished with five points.
