Russellville baseball sweeps Guntersville during winning week

The Russellville varsity baseball team wrapped up a successful week with a double header sweep of the Guntersville Wildcats Saturday at RHS.

The Golden Tigers have been solid in all phases of the game lately and have won six of the past seven contests. The boys are 6-2 on the season.

In the first game versus Guntersville, Russellville needed six innings to get a 12-2 victory.

Grayson Thorpe had three hits, including two doubles, and he scored twice. Canyon Pace had a home run and two RBIs. Andrew Hatton had two hits, four RBIs and a run. Reed Hill had two hits, including a double and an RBI.

Other Russellville players with hits included Shayden Romans, Cole Barnett, JD Bishop and Gavin Slay. Bishop had three RBIs, and the hit by Slay was a double.

Emitt Green got the win in relief of Banks Langston. Green pitched three innings, allowing no hits, walks or runs, and he struck out seven batters.

Game two against GHS was an 11-5 Russellville win.

Pace had three hits in four tries and had three RBIs. Thorpe added two more hits, including a double. He scored once and drove home two.

Jackson Lindsey smacked a triple, and he had an RBI and a run scored and also walked once.

Gordon White, Hill, Barnett and Hatton also hit safely.

Russellville used four pitchers in the game, with Brayden Heaps getting the start. He was followed by Samuel Pace, Hill and Ethan Oliver.

“I’m really proud of our pitching. We’ve got a lot of guys doing a really good job on the mound,” said Russellville head coach Chris Heaps. “We had a lot of guys with hits today. We had guys that came off the bench that got multiple hits.

“We had guys that maybe haven’t been playing but every third game or so, but we’ve got a lot of players – and a lot of good players,” Heaps pointed out. “What you’ve got to do when you have that is, when your number is not called right off the bat, you can’t get your feelings hurt and feel like ‘I’m not important’ because there’s a situation that could happen or a guy could get hurt at any time, and very quickly, you’re all of a sudden really important.”

Florence 4, Russellville 2

A late rally attempt by Russellville fell short, as the Falcons took the win at RHS March 3.

Nick Smith, Lindsey, Hill and Canyon Pace all had hits. Hill and Pace drove in the Russellville runs, and Barnett scored them.

Green got the start on the mound and pitched two innings, allowing three hits and no runs. He was followed in relief by Rowe Gallagher, Ethan Oliver, Langston and Hill.

Russellville 8, Brooks 6

The Golden Tigers went to Killen Thursday and got a victory over the Lions.

Thorpe had a big day with the bat for Russellville by picking up a triple and four RBIs. He was hit by a pitch and scored twice.

Canyon Pace had two hits and an RBI.

Oliver, Hatton, Lindsey, Hill and Bishop also hit safely.

The Golden Tigers were busy running the bases and swiped seven bags, with Bishop picking up four of the steals. White went three innings on the mound to start the game. He was followed by Heaps, Samuel Pace and Oliver.

Pace got the win by going 1.1 innings allowing no runs, and he struck out three.

Russellville 6, Randolph 2

Randolph School made the trip from Huntsville to take on the Golden Tigers Friday. RHS had eight hits, with Lindsey, Smith and Hill picking up two each, while Slay and Bishop also hit safely.
