Red Devil team overcomes Tigers

The Vina Red Devil baseball team broke open a tight game in the top of the third inning, scoring seven runs and beating the Red Bay Tigers 14-4.

Red Bay took a 1-0 lead early in the game when Brian Blair stole home. Vina took a 4-1 lead in the bottom half of the inning when Grayson Ridge scored on a wild pitch, Nathan Byrd hit a two-run single and Haze Weatherford scored on a wild pitch.

Carson Corum scored on a wild pitch in the top of the second inning to cut Vina’s lead to 4-2. Vina, however, pushed to 6-2 in the bottom of the second on runs by Ridge and Conner Davidson.

Red Bay scored two in the top of the third to cut Vina’s lead to 6-4. Tyler Reynolds scored when Corum was hit by a pitch, and Jeremiah Robinson scored on a pop fly by Robinson.

Vina broke the game open in the bottom of the third inning on early singles by Ridge and Davidson.

Red Bay fielding errors led to many of the Red Devils other runs in the third.

Vina was strong at the plate, with Ridge leading the way with two hits, three runs and an RBI. Weatherford had a hit and two RBIs and scored three runs. Byrd had three RBIs. Davidson and Wyatt Kennedy had two RBIs.
