Club Chronicles: Cultura Garden Club meets in person for first time this year
The Cultura Garden Club held its first person-to-person meeting of the year March 9 at Alabama Central Credit Union. Most members attended and thoroughly enjoyed getting out and visiting with each other following all the COVID-19 restrictions.
Following refreshments provided by hostesses Hillary Hall, Hayley Fuller and myself, the program was presented by Michelle Sibley. The program and institute titles were “Accent Interior Decorating with Flowers” and “New Trends in Interior Decorating.” Each member received a handout that included pictures of ways to use flower arrangements as accents; floral wallpaper as new trends; and floral paintings, accent rugs and upholstery. Michelle suggested checking Pinterest for more information and ideas.
At the end of the program, three members – JoAnn Graham, Debbie Beason and Darlene Hester – received door prizes.
Debbie Nale, fundraiser chairperson, distributed information about the annual spring flower sale, which kicks off this week and ends April 7.
The 10-inch hanging basket selections include Tri and True Wave Petunia, Passionate Pink Wave Petunia, Celebration and Sunset Mixed MilliBell at $14 each. Each premium garden arrangement of four or more plants in a 12-inch decorative pot includes Rockin’ Red Geranium, Dahlia Combination, Kitchen Herb Combination, Lantana Butterfly Mix Combination and Sunbeam Mix Millibell Garden at $20 each.
Information for placing orders may be found on Facebook through garden club members’ posts.
In the business session, secretary Sherry James distributed club minutes for October and November. Committee chairpeople and members discussed projects such as downtown spring planting, making plans for new hanging baskets and pots and caring for the Norway Spruce tree and surrounding landscape.
Next month’s meeting will be held April 13.
The meeting closed with the reading of The Garden Club of Alabama Collect, led by Cheri McCain.
