RBHS student-athlete signs with Bethel

Red Bay’s Cam McKinney recently signed a football scholarship with Bethel College in Tennessee. McKinney, a two-time Class 2A All-State pick, was recruited by Bethel as an inside linebacker.

“It means a lot to be able to get this chance to play at the next level,” said the Red Bay senior. “I’ve always dreamed about being a collegiate athlete. Not a lot of people get this kind of opportunity.”

McKinney was a first team All-State selection this past year and a second team All-State selection this year.  The fiveyear starter had more than 400 career tackles for the Tigers.

“I’ve been playing for Coach Michael Jackson for the past five years,” said McKinney, “and every year I’ve learned something new. What I will really take with me is how to mentally prepare yourself and the willingness to sacrifice for your team.”

Jackson, who has coached Red Bay for seven years, said he expects McKinney to be an integral part of Bethel’s program.

“I am very excited for Cam,” said Jackson. “He is a physical player. He has great ability and great character. I expect him to do very well at the next level.”

McKinney said he is undecided on a major but is leaning toward the engineering field.
