RHS boys rank top in 5A before win streak stops at 10

The Russellville varsity baseball boys extended their winning streak to 10 games and took the No. 1 ranking in the Class 5A poll before dropping a game on the road.

James Clemens hosted Russellville March 19, and the two teams split a double-header.

In game one, RHS was trailing 1-0 in the top of the final inning when Eli Gipson smacked a two-run double with two outs. JD Bishop then followed with an insurance RBI single, and the Golden Tigers finished off the 3-1 win for their 10th consecutive victory.

Casen Heaps had two hits and a stolen base for Russellville. Reed Hill, Canyon Pace and Cole Barnett also hit safely.

Emitt Green got the start on the mound, going three innings. He allowed no runs or walks and struck out four. Banks Langston followed with no hits and one unearned run over two innings, with three strike outs. Reed Hill got the win with two innings of scoreless relief.

The Jets took the win in game two by a 6-3 final score. Russellville (12-3) used three pitchers, with Ethan Oliver getting the start. He gave up five runs on four hits during three innings of work. Samuel Pace followed in relief, allowing an unearned run over two innings. Brayden Heaps pitched an inning, and he struck out two batters.

Bishop had two hits and an RBI for RHS. Grayson Thorpe had a hit and two RBIs, while Nick Smith, Barnett, Gipson and Langston also had hits.

Before the fall, March 16 the Golden Tigers went to Tennessee and faced the Loretto Mustangs. RHS used two pitchers and got a 6-0 victory.

Gordon White got the start on the mound and the win, going five innings. He allowed three hits and struck out four batters. Pace finished the game by going two innings. The right-hander gave up no hits and struck out two.

Neither pitcher walked a batter in the contest.

Jackson Lindsey and Smith both homered and had two RBIs for Russellville. Hill doubled and drove in a run, and Thorpe had a hit, an RBI and two runs scored. White also hit safely with a single.
