Red Devils take area series over Belgreen boys
The Vina Red Devils came back from a game one loss to beat the Belgreen Bulldogs in two straight to take the area series 2-1.
GAME ONE: BELGREEN 7, VINA 4
The Belgreen Bulldogs dominated game one of the area series. The Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning and extended that lead to 5-0 in the top of the fourth inning.
Vina scored a run in the bottom half of the fourth, but Belgreen added two more in the top of the sixth for a 7-1 lead.
Vina made a bit of noise in the bottom of the fifth, scoring three runs, but that was all the Bulldogs would allow.
Brodie Vandiver had a big game for Belgreen from the bottom of the lineup, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and scoring a run. Alex Jarnigan and Will King both had a two–RBI game for the Bulldogs.
Canaan Stough got the win, pitching five full innings, allowing one hit and striking out eight batters.
Vina had a two–RBI game from Wyatt Kennedy. Zac Davidson had two hits and scored two runs.
GAME TWO: VINA 16, BELGREEN 6
Vina had an explosive 14-run second inning to put game two of the area series to rest early.
Vina and Belgreen had six hits each, but the Red Devils were able to take advantage of 10 walks in the runaway victory.
Zac Davidson and Alex Hargett both had a three-RBI game for the Red Devils. Trenton Alack, Wyatt Kennedy, Nathan Byrd and Bailee Scott all had two RBIs each.
Haze Weatherford scored three runs for the Red Devils.
Alack got the win on the mound for the Red Devils, pitching a complete game. He allowed four earned runs on six hits and struck out eight.
GAME THREE: VINA 19, BELGREEN 13
The rubber match of the series was a run–scoring bonanza, mostly owing to shaky pitching by both teams.
Belgreen pitchers walked 17 Red Devils, while Vina pitchers walked 15 Bulldogs.
Vina did pound out 11 hits, helping the Red Devils take advantage of the free bases.
Vina led Belgreen 4-3 at the end of the third inning, but Belgreen tied the game in the fourth inning 7-7.
Vina finally got some separation in the top of the fifth inning, scoring seven runs to take the lead for good.
Grayson Ridge had three hits, including a double, and scored four runs for Vina. Zac Davidson had two hits and four RBIs and scored three runs.
Kennedy had two hits and four RBIs and scored two runs.
Glen Ashley also crossed the plate four times for the Red Devils.
Scott scored three runs for Vina.
For Belgreen, Stough had the highlight of the game with a fourth inning grand slam home run to right field. Will King and Cole King scored three runs each for the Bulldogs.
