Belgreen softball has strong week
The Belgreen Bulldog softball team had a strong week this past week, taking three of five games. Belgreen beat Belmont 3-1, Colbert County 6-0 and Cedar Bluff 8-7.
Belgreen 3, Belmont 1
In the Belgreen Bulldogs’ 3-1 win over the Belmont Cardinals, the game was scoreless through three innings. The Bulldogs broke through in the top of the fourth inning when Emma Dempsey scored on a single by Madison Vandiver.
Belgreen extended the lead to 3-0 in the sixth inning on a two-run triple by Lily Blackburn scoring Dempsey and Vandiver.
Dempsey went seven innings in the circle, allowing four hits and one run and striking out ten.
Belgreen 6, Colbert County 0
Dempsey pitched a two-hit shutout in the 6-0 win over the Colbert County Indians.
Blackburn got the scoring going in the bottom of the fourth inning on an RBI-triple scoring Kelsey Wilson.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Dempsey scored on a fielder’s choice, giving the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead.
Morgan Vandiver followed that up with a two-run double scoring Blackburn and Madison Vandiver to give the Bulldogs a 4-0 lead.
Belgreen completed scoring on a two-run single by Katie Cooper scoring Hannah Borden and Morgan Vandiver.
Belgreen 8, Cedar Bluff 7
Makayla Willigham hit a walk-off double in the bottom of the sixth inning, scoring Caitlyn Oliver, to beat Cedar Bluff 8-7.
Cedar Bluff led Belgreen 6-2 after an inning and a half, but the Bulldogs tied the game with four runs in the bottom of the second inning.
Hannah Borden led Belgreen with a single, a double and four RBIs.
