FC approves purchase of two buses

At its most recent meeting, the Franklin County Schools Board of Education approved the purchase of two 2022 Type C buses to replace the two current buses serving students with special needs.

The purchase will come through Southland Transportation Group at $99,406.61 per unit. The two current vehicles will become spares.

“We were already told last year when the state inspector came that he would put stickers on them for spares, but he really emphasized that we didn’t need to have them on the road,” said Franklin County Assistant Superintendent Johnny Cleveland. “He stickered them last year, but he told us he would not put a sticker on them when he came back this time. That is where our need is on those.”

The Board of Education also approved the purchase of switches for Tharptown High School and Belgreen High School through Clearwinds. The bid for BHS was $30,022.73, and the bid for THS was $15,661.19.

A bid was also approved to replace the gym flooring at Red Bay High School through Covington Flooring Company at a bid of $155,010 through the State Bond.

Hires were approved for the Summer TRACKS program, with 59 total hires across the county.

There were 12 approved hires for Red Bay, 12 for Phil Campbell, 11 for Vina, 11 for Tharptown, seven for Belgreen and six for East Franklin.

The next school board meeting will be May 11 beginning at 5 p.m.
