Russellville council recognizes RHS athletes

Students packed the Russellville City Council meeting room Friday as the council recognized the achievements of several student athletes during the spring semester.

The city council presented resolutions to students honoring them for their athletic accomplishments.

“It is a great time to be a Golden Tiger,” said Russellville Mayor David Grissom. “We are so proud of these students for all of their hard work and their accomplishments.”

The city council honored Brooks Scott for winning first place in discus at state and Conner Warhurst for placing third in high jump in track and field at state.

Tennis doubles champions Avary Miller and Roxanna Velez-Serna were recognized for their first-place state victory, and Eric Boutwell was recognized for tying for third place in the state golf tournament.

The RHS boys soccer team was recognized for the second place finish, bringing the red map trophy home to Russellville.

The final athletic resolution honored the RHS baseball team for their state championship victory.

The members of the baseball team were not in attendance, but Grissom said the players will be recognized at a later time.
