City, county honor PC baseball for state championship

The 2021 baseball season will go down in history in Phil Campbell as the first year the school has ever won the 3A state championship.

For their victory, the baseball team received a celebration in their honor Tuesday night at the Phil Campbell City Council meeting at the Phil Campbell Community Center.

“We are so proud of these young men and their accomplishments,” said Phil Campbell Mayor Mike McQuary. “They have had an extraordinary season.”

The players and their coaches received a signed resolution honoring them from both the Phil Campbell City Council and the Franklin County Commission.

Probate Judge Barry Moore and Commissioners David Hester and Joseph Baldwin were in attendance to congratulate the team on their accomplishments, along with Rep. Jamie Kiel.

“Their accomplishments have made the entire county proud,” Moore said as he presented the resolution to the team.

In addition to presenting resolutions to each player, the city council also approved donating $1,000 to the Phil Campbell baseball team.

McQuary said the town will be adding signs to recognize the state championship team.

He said there will most likely be three signs – one at the baseball field and one on each side of town.

The city council is looking at different design options, but no signs have been ordered yet.
