Dream Center, Redemption Church give away backpacks

Three hundred free backpacks filled with school supplies will be handed out to students in kindergarten through 12th grade at the Neon Night Backpack Giveaway.

This event will be held Aug. 1 from 57 p.m. at Russellville Skateland, hosted by Redemption Outreach Church and the Russellville Dream Center.

The first 100 students in the door will receive a free neon T-shirt. In addition, 1,700 other neon items – such as necklaces and bracelets – will be on hand to give away.

Children can skate for free during the event.

“Our ministry really targets reaching the kids and families in our area,” said Sean Reathford, senior pastor at Redemption Outreach Church. “Part of that has been done through our outreach program with Russellville Dream Center. Additionally, we are really thankful to be able to partner with Russellville Skateland and also with Walmart for our discounted school supplies.

“Andersyn Jack, a local company, made all of our T-shirts,” Reathford added. “We’re excited to be able to hold this special event.”

Courtney Vincent, assistant women’s director and kitchen overseer at Russellville Dream Center, said this will be the seventh year for the backpack giveaway.

“We are super excited to be able to provide this opportunity for the kids as they get ready to head back to school this year,” she said “We are hoping to have a big impact on the community.”

“Outreach is a huge part of the vision at our church, so much so it’s even in our name,” added Lindsey Hall, one of the administrative pastors at the church. “Whether it’s serving food boxes each month to feed hungry families, filling backpacks with school supplies to help kids have a great year or even bringing the ice cream truck around to spread a little joy, we are there to serve our community with the love of Jesus.”

Masks will not be required but are encouraged for those who wish to wear them. For more information, call 256-332-4732.
