Splash pad construction continues

Russellville Mayor David Grissom provided an update on the city’s splash pad project at the end of the city council meeting Aug. 2.

The original goal for completion included having the splash pad ready for the July 4 Jam on Sloss Lake celebration. Grissom said excessive rain caused delays in the construction.

Grissom read a message from Justin Vance, president of Great Southern Recreation, the company that is building the splash pad. In the message, Vance mentioned attributed setbacks in construction to the weather. Vance said the project is now “shovel ready,” and his crew would be back on site starting Aug. 9.

Vance said “all materials are on site and have been staged” and they “won’t leave until it’s complete.”

“It will be a facility where our kids, parents and grandparents can all have fun and enjoy making memories for many years to come,” said Grissom.

The splash pad will be located off of Highway 24 between John Blackwell Sports Complex and Sloss Lake. No date has been announced for its opening.
