Club Chronicles: Club members stay busy despite summer hiatus

Activities for some clubs and organizations have been on furlough during the summer; however, some club leaders have attended workshops, conventions, state board meetings and Zoom meetings to keep aware of what is planned for the upcoming calendar year for their organizations.

The Alabama State Organization of Delta Kappa Gamma held a leadership seminar at Jacksonville State University in June.

Members were selected from throughout the state to participate in this seminar to enhance valuable leadership and management skills. Session topics included communication, time management, organization, health, DKG issues and leadership principles.

The State DKG fall board meeting will be held Aug. 14 at the Dalraida Church of Christ in Montgomery. At this meeting, state business will be conducted.

Some members of the Franklin County DKG Alpha Upsilon Chapter have attended.

The GFWC Alabama Convention was held in June at Perdido Beach Resort in Orange Beach. Clubs across the state were recognized for their community services and volunteerism.

In conjunction with the convention, the GFWC Alabama Foster House Club met with its members from across the state to make plans for the AFWC Headquarters located in Birmingham.

GFWC/AFWC Book Lovers Study Club members attended or serve on the AFWC Board of Directors.

The North Alabama Mountain Lakes Tourist Association Board quarterly meeting was held July 27 at Burns Bluff in Albertville.

A new program, Pitching for Promotion Dollars, from AMLA was offered to help its members with presentation skills. The first 10 AMLA members registered were given three minutes to promote their destination in a speech, and the top winner received a trophy and money.

The AMLA officers reported on activities they attended and participated in for the past quarter. The Franklin County Chamber of Commerce and the Franklin County Arts and Humanities Council are affiliated with the AMLA and have attended these meetings.

The Cultura Garden Club members have remained active during the summer working to maintain the plants downtown. With the assistance of Shannon Wilson and the Russellville Street Department, the garden club members have kept the plants and flowers watered during the summer heat.

Flowers in some pots and baskets have had to be replaced because of the heat.

When you see any of these volunteer workers, please thank them for their dedication in keeping downtown beautiful.

Now that mid-August is here, many officers have been working on plans for the upcoming year.  Committee assignments, program topics and speakers for meetings and club projects have been planned.

Russellville is fortunate to have dedicated citizens who volunteer to make our community a better place to live.
