Bobcats route Elkmont to start region play

The Phil Campbell Bobcats laid waste to the Elkmont Red Devils Friday night to take an early region win. The Bobcats scored early and often to beat Elkmont 55-8.

Led by quarterback Kyle Pace, the Bobcats amassed 536 yards of total offense in the lopsided contest. Pace completed six of seven passes for 169 yards and two touchdowns. Pace also ran for a score.

Bryant Hyde put the Bobcats on the board first with a 38-yard run. Pace completed a two-point conversion pass to Blain Goodson to give Phil Campbell an early 8-0 lead with 9:36 to go in the first quarter.

Goodson ran one into the end zone from 10 yards out a few minutes later. Sage Raper added the point after to give the Bobcats a 15-0 lead with 5:54 to go in the first quarter.

Phil Campbell added another first quarter score with 3:18 to go on a two-yard run by Pace, giving the Bobcats a 21-0 lead.

Phil Campbell scored twice in the second quarter – on a 10-yard run pass from Pace to Hyde and a four-yard run by Hyde – to give the Bobcats a 34-0 halftime lead.

Austin Douthit added to the Bobcats’ lead early in the third quarter on a three-yard scoring run to give the Bobcats a 41-0 lead.

Elkmont finally got on the board in the third quarter making the score 41-8.  The Bobcats, however, added two more late scores, an 80-yard pass from Pace to Goodson and a two-yard run by Raper to cap off their scoring.

Goodson caught three passes for 121 yards and a touchdown.

Hyde carried the ball 11 times for 90 yards and two scores. Boone Swinney had four carries for 80 yards. Raper had three carries for 61 yards and a touchdown.

Phil Campbell will host Clements Friday night.

IN OTHER ACTION

Vina made a valiant comeback effort against the Shoals Christian Flame Friday night. Trailing 22-16 at the half, the Red Devils tied the game late in the third quarter – only to end up losing 30-22.

Wyatt Kennedy completed a 55-yard pass to Nate Stidham for the Red Devils’ first score.

Vina’s second score came on a 28-yard pass from Stidham to Malachi Fletcher.

Stidham ran the ball in from nine yards out to tie the game late in the third quarter.

Vina will travel to Decatur Heritage Thursday night.

Red Bay lost to Lexington 34-6. Tharptown lost to Colbert County 63-7.

Red Bay will be off Friday night, while Tharptown will travel to Lexington.
