Football faces week three

Local teams will be looking to add to the win column with a slate of region games Friday.

PCHS (2-1) hosts Clements (0-2)

The Phil Campbell Bobcat return home after an easy road win at Elkmont this past week. The Bobcats will face the Clements Colts Friday.

Clements is 0-2 with losses to Wilson 34-28 and West Limestone 55-28. Don’t read too much into those losses, however. Clements lost in similar fashion to those two teams in 2020 before beating the Bobcats 38-18.

Clements is coming off an open date – an extra week to prepare for Phil Campbell.

Red Bay (0-2) – OPEN

For the second straight year, Red Bay has the unusual two open dates early in the season. The Tigers will begin an eight game stretch next week when they host Tharptown.

RHS (3-0) travels to Brewer (0-3)

This should be another easy region game for the Golden Tigers. Let’s face it: Objectively, Brewer just isn’t very good. Russellville has never lost to the Patriots.

The Golden Tigers are coming off three straight wins – against Decatur, Deshler and Mae Jemison. Brewer, on the other hand, is coming off three straight losses – to Danville, Priceville and Ardmore.

THS (2-1) travels to Lexington (2-1)

The Tharptown Wildcats will try to shake off a beating at the hands of the Colbert County Indians as they prepare to take to the road and face another tough region opponent in the Lexington Golden Bears.

Lexington is coming off a 34-6 win over the Red Bay Tigers. It was the Golden Bears’ first win over the Tigers in four years.

Lexington beat Tharptown 55-0 last year.

VHS (0-2) cancels versus Decatur Heritage (1-2)

The Vina Red Devils were set to travel to Decatur Heritage this week.

However, Thursday night’s game vs. the Vina Red Devils became a forfeit win for Decatur Heritage Thursday morning when the Red Devils decided they did not have enough players.

According to school officials, Vina was down to 14 players Wednesday with some sick and some injured.

Decatur Heritage is 6-0 against Vina and won this game 53-8 in 2020.
