Russellville City Council recognizes 200th anniversary of First United Methodist Church

The Russellville City Council held its regular meeting Oct. 18 and, in special recognition adopted a resolution in honor of a local church with a long history in the community.

The council took the opportunity to recognize and commend the First United Methodist Church on its 200th anniversary and acknowledge “that the First United Methodist Church has provided positive leadership in the Russellville community for two centuries.”

In other business, the council approved:

  • Resignation of SRO Scotty Lowery.
  • Contract with SRO Chris Copeland and Russellville City Schools Board of Education.
  • Promotion of Chris Hill to sergeant in the Russellville Police Department.
  • Authorization for Fire Chief Joe Mansell to consult with Auburn University/Government & Economic Development to create a deputy chief job description for the Russellville Fire Department. During the work session, Mansell said the fire department is the only city department without a second in command.

The next regular council meeting will be Nov. 1, with the work session at 6 p.m. and the meeting at 6:30 p.m.
