Vina, Phil Campbell girls pick up wins during holiday week

The Vina Red Devils and the Phil Campbell Bobcats made the most of holiday basketball action by putting a few extra tallies in their respective win columns.

Vina ran away from Hubbertville in the middle two quarters of the game to win 48-33 this past week. Sara Scott scored a double-double with 14 points and 17 rebounds to lead the Red Devils to the win.

Hubbertville led 10-5 at the end of the first quarter, but Kaitlyn Athey sparked Vina in the second quarter, scoring nine points, and the Red Devils outscored the Tigers 17-7 to take a 22-17 halftime lead.

Vina continued that pace in the third quarter, outscoring Hubbertville 18-8 to extend the lead 40-26.

Athey and Scott led Vina with 14 points each. Sarah Harper scored nine points and dished out nine assists. Abbie Petree and Keyara Umfress scored four points each. K.K. Mitchell added two points, and Kaley Attaway chipped in one point.

Phil Campbell 45, Wilson 42

Kenner Scott and Faith Cook powered the Phil Campbell Bobcats past the Wilson Warriors 45-42 this past week.

Wilson took a slim 11-9 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Bobcats revved the scoring in the second quarter to tie 20-20 at halftime.

The Phil Campbell girls had a big third quarter, outscoring Wilson 13-7. Cook had a pair of shots in the third quarter, including a threepointer. Madison Branch and Hannah Welborn also sank a couple of shots in the third quarter for the Bobcats.

Wilson outscored the Bobcats in the fourth quarter 15-12. The Bobcats were able to hang on to win thanks to six fourthquarter points by Scott, who went four for six from the freethrow line down the stretch.

Scott and Cook scored 14 points each for Phil Campbell. Branch added six points, Allie Herring five points, Welborn four points, Jade Roberson two points and Kaley Motes two points.

Phil Campbell lost to West Limestone 42-36. Scott led the Bobcats with 18 points – 11 of those coming in the fourth quarter. Branch added 10 points, with eight coming in the first half. Maddie Rapper scored four points, Roberson two points and Cook two points.
