Delta Kappa Gamma Alpha Upsilon Chapter held its meeting Dec. 6 at the Russellville First United Methodist Church. After canceling the previous year’s meetings and Christmas dinner meeting because of COVID-19, everyone was looking forward to this year’s gathering.

Gayle McAlister, Debbie Beason, Louise Hester and Joyce Strickland were hostesses. Members brought Christmas items for a silent auction to raise money for the DKG International World Fellowship Project. The DKG International World Fellowship Fund was established to provide opportunities for women from foreign countries to pursue graduate studies in Canada and the United States.

Following a delicious dinner, special guest Carolyn Eck, DKG Alabama District I director, presented a program on DKG Alabama – Beta State – and its 90th birthday celebration.

DKG Alabama State was founded Dec. 19, 1931. In recognition of this milestone birthday, cupcakes were served at the meeting.

Members were urged to wear their DKG ribbons/pins, take pictures and upload them on the social media site for Alabama State (Beta State) Dec. 19. Also members were asked to reach out to at least nine DKG sisters that day, to send them a text, email or phone call, telling them how thankful we are for them and how much they mean to Alabama State.

There will be a proper birthday celebration in February on Leadership Day.

The DKG Alabama Leadership Day will be held Feb. 19 at Dalraida church of Christ in Montgomery. Candace Martin, DKG South East regional director, is the international guest for Leadership Day. Active teachers will receive CEUs.

Dianne Wages Pace, DKG Alpha Upsilon member, shared her newest book, “Too Many Santas,” at the meeting. Many members purchased signed copies of her book for keepsakes and for gifts.

During the 2021 calendar year, DKG Alpha Upsilon donated $100 to the Alabama Sheriff’s Youth Ranch; $100 to Safe Place; and $100 for recognition gifts that were presented to senior girls graduating with the highest grade point averages in the Class of 2021.

The closing of the meeting featured the singing of the “Delta Kappa Gamma Song” led by Joyce Strickland. Everyone was wished a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
