Red Bay Tigers win B-Varsity Boys title

The Red Bay Tigers pulled away from the Belgreen Bulldogs in the fourth quarter Saturday to capture the B-Varsity Boys Franklin County Tournament title, 31-24.

Belgreen led Red Bay 8-6 in the first quarter, but Red Bay outscored Belgreen 15-9 in the second quarter to take a 21-17 halftime lead.

The scoring disappeared in the third quarter as the two defenses took hold, with Belgreen outscoring Red Bay just 3-0 to make it a one point game, 21-20 to Red Bay, at the end of the third quarter.

The Tigers outscored the Bulldogs 10-4 in the fourth quarter to pull away and capture the title.

Ty Reynolds led Red Bay with 10 points.Reynolds was followed by Connor Humphries with nine points, Gage Edgmon with seven points, Kennedy Wilemon with four points and Jeremiah Robinson with one point.

Belgreen’s Brent Sykes led all scorers with 14 points. He was followed by Will King with seven points, Ely Mitchell with two points and Hunter Woodruff with one point.

Semifinals: Belgreen 43, Phil Campbell 41

The Belgreen Bulldogs came from behind to beat the Phil Campbell Bobcats 43-41 in the semifinals of the Franklin County Tournament. The win vaulted the Bulldogs into the finals to face Red Bay.

Phil Campbell jumped out to a 15-7 first quarter, but Belgreen cut the Bobcat lead to three points by halftime, 26-23.

Phil Campbell led Belgreen 33-31 at the end of the third quarter; the Bulldogs, however, outpaced the Bobcats 12-6 in the fourth quarter to capture the win.

Will King led Belgreen with 18 points, followed by Alex Guidry with 10 points. Brent Sykes added six points, Hunter Woodruff four points, Chris Naylor three points and Ely Mitchell two points.

Braxton Goodson led Phil Campbell with 15 points – 11 of those coming in the first half. Gage Baker added nine points. Tre McCulloch and Clayton DeMartin scored five points each. Brayden Carter and Clay Martin had two points each.
