Phil Campbell girls dominate area

The Phil Campbell girls picked up two area wins this past week to remain undefeated in area play. Phil Campbell beat East Lawrence 56-24 and Vinemont 53-29.

East Franklin freshman Macy Hardy led Phil Campbell with 14 points to propel the Lady Bobcats past the East Lawrence Lady Eagles. Hardy went seven for eight from the freethrow line to score half her points.

East Lawrence held a slight advantage at the end of the first quarter, leading Phil Campbell 8-7. The Bobcats, however, dominated the rest of the game, outscoring the Eagles 18-7 in the second quarter to take a 25-15 halftime lead and 15-5 in the third quarter to extend the lead to 40-20.

Following Hardy in scoring was Hannah Welborn with 11 points. Welborn scored eight of her points in the second quarter, sinking six for six from the freethrow line.

Kenner Scott and Madison Branch scored nine points each. Faith Cook added seven points, all coming from the freethrow line. Jade Roberson, Madeline Raper and Ayla Stowe scored two points each.

The Phil Campbell Bobcats squandered a fourth-quarter lead, losing to East Lawrence in an area matchup 57-56 on a free throw by EL’s Klebb Hill with a half second left on the clock.

East Lawrence led Phil Campbell 18-16 at the end of the first quarter. PC’s Cam Habada drained a three-pointer at the buzzer to give the Bobcats a 35-32 lead.

Phil Campbell started the second half on a 9-2 run to take a 44-34 lead, and the Bobcats led 48-41 at the end of the third quarter.

East Lawrence tied the game 50-50 on two straight baskets with 2:28 to go in the game. East Lawrence hit a three-pointer with 22 seconds to go in the game to give the Eagles a 56-54 lead.
